Full Article on Wikipedia
Nabil Nahas is a Lebanese artist and painter. He was born on 18 September 1949. He currently lives and works in New York. Nabil Nahas grew up in Cairo and Beirut and later moved to the United States to study at Louisiana State University. He earned a BFA in 1971 and an MFA from Yale in 1973, and after being influenced by contemporary painters there, he moved to New York following graduation. He is also the younger brother of the Lebanese/Brazilian businessman Naji Nahas. Nabil Nahas regularly showed his work at major New York galleries and was widely praised by critics. He often worked in abstract styles, continuously changing and reinventing his approach. His paintings blend geometric and decorative patterns inspired by Levantine architecture with traditional Western techniques, sometimes using vivid colors and motifs like starfish, and in his latest work he more directly includes Lebanese trees; in 2018 he was commissioned to create a cedar painting for a new Lebanese stamp. Nabil Nahas had many solo exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East from 1973 onward. His shows took place in major galleries and venues such as Robert Miller Gallery, Holly Solomon Gallery, and Sperone Westwater, as well as international locations including Paris, Milan, Munich, Dubai, and Beirut. He also participated in the 25th Bienal de São Paulo in 2002.
