IV is the fourth studio album by Hiroyuki Sawano’s vocal project, SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]. It was released on March 3, 2021, under the Sony Music label Sacra Music. From the album, five singles were issued: “Tranquility,” “Trollz,” “Chaos Drifters,” “CRY,” and “time.” In its first week, the album reached number 9 on the daily charts. It stayed on the Oricon charts for a total of six weeks. Before the album was released, several double A-side singles came out, including “Tranquility / Trollz” (with “Trollz” and “Tranquility” tied to anime releases) and “Chaos Drifters / CRY” (whose songs were used as opening themes for anime, with release delayed due to COVID-19). “time” featuring ReoNa was released last as an anime ending theme, and Sawano later announced the album date, tracklist, and bonus content. He then revealed more songs through Twitter teasers and previews on YouTube, including re-arranged tracks and collaborations, culminating in a digest showing all album tracks. The album credits list Hiroyuki Sawano as the main creator, with him playing keyboards (tracks 1–14.16), piano (tracks 4.6–13.15), and other instruments across all tracks. Multiple guest vocalists are featured on different tracks, including Yosh, Aina The End, Jean-Ken Johnny, naNami, Anly, ReoNa, Yuuri, Gemie & Tielle, and Taiiku Okazaki, along with backing vocalists such as Benjamin & mpi, cAnON., Momoko, Rie, and Akiko.
