Full Article on Wikipedia
The 268th Indian Infantry Brigade is an infantry unit in the Indian Army. It originally belonged to the British Indian Army. Over time, it became part of the Indian Army as the forces were reorganized. The brigade continues to serve as an infantry formation. The brigade was formed in July 1942 as the 268th Indian Armoured Brigade at Sialkot with three armoured regiments, then converted to the 268th Indian Infantry Brigade in October 1942. It served with several divisions and corps during World War II, and after the war it moved to Japan as part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force, where it was reorganised into a brigade group in 1947 before returning to India later that year. In 1947 it fought in Kashmir during the Indo-Pakistan War, entering Jammu and Kashmir as the third brigade. In 1962 it was part of the 19th Infantry Division at Baramula under XV Corps in Western Command, just before the next war between India and Pakistan. This section lists the main World War II units assigned to the 268th Indian Infantry Brigade. It includes several infantry battalions from different regiments, as well as engineering and cavalry support units.
