T1 was a torpedo boat that was operated by the Royal Yugoslav Navy from 1921 to 1941. Originally named 76 T, she was built in 1914 and saw active service during World War I. After Austria-Hungary's defeat, she was allocated to the Navy of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and renamed T1. During the interwar period, T1 and the rest of the navy were involved in training exercises. She was captured by the Italians in 1941 and served with the Royal Italian Navy. After the Italian capitulation, she was returned to the Royal Yugoslav Navy-in-exile and commissioned after World War II. She served until 1955 and is now a recreational dive site. The Austria-Hungary Naval Technical Committee wanted to design a torpedo boat capable of sustaining high speeds for long durations. They also wanted a larger and better-armed boat that could navigate through blockades. The Austro-Hungarian Navy chose Stabilimento Tecnico Triestino to build eight of these torpedo boats. The T1 torpedo boat was part of the 250t-class and was well designed for service in the Adriatic. It had two Parsons steam turbines and two propellers, and could reach top speeds of 28 kn. The boat was armed with two guns, four torpedo tubes, and could carry naval mines. It was completed in 1914 and commissioned in August of that year. The torpedo boat 76 T was part of the Austro-Hungarian 1st Torpedo Flotilla during World War I. It participated in various operations, including shelling Italian targets and conducting anti-submarine patrols. In 1918, it was involved in an attack on the Allied defenders, but was ultimately torpedoed and sunk by Italian MAS boats. After the Austro-Hungarian Empire surrendered in 1918, 76 torpedo boats survived and were occupied by French troops. In 1920, they were given to Yugoslavia as part of a treaty and renamed T1. T1 underwent several modifications and refits, but by 1939, its speed had declined to 24 knots.
