"White Horse" is a song by Taylor Swift released in 2008. It was the second single from her album Fearless and received positive reviews from music critics. The song tells the story of a heartbroken narrator who realizes that her boyfriend is not who she thought he was. She leaves her town with hopes of finding someone better. The song won awards at the Grammy Awards and reached the top charts in the US, Australia, Canada, and the UK. The music video, directed by Trey Fanjoy, shows Swift remembering her relationship and discovering her ex-boyfriend's infidelity. Swift later re-recorded the song for her album Fearless (Taylor's Version) in 2021. Taylor Swift wrote songs for her album Fearless while touring as an opening act for other country musicians. She wanted her fans to relate to her music, so she wrote songs about love and personal experiences from the perspective of a teenage girl. One of the songs, "White Horse," was inspired by a boy who turned out to be different from what she imagined, and she wanted to show both the optimistic and disillusioned sides of romance in her lyrics. Taylor Swift initially planned to exclude "White Horse" from her album Fearless because it had too many sad songs. However, she changed her mind when the producers of Grey's Anatomy wanted to feature the song in the series. "White Horse" was eventually released as a single and achieved chart success, including reaching number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After a dispute with her previous record label, Taylor Swift decided to re-record her first six albums to regain ownership of her songs. The re-recording of "White Horse" was released as part of her re-recorded album "Fearless" and it charted in various countries, including reaching number 2 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart in the United States. "White Horse" is a 3 minute and 54-second country pop ballad with a pop hook. The song features finger-picked acoustic guitar, piano, and cello accents, highlighting Taylor Swift's tender and breathy vocals. The lyrics tell the story of a heartbroken narrator who realizes that her boyfriend is not the person she thought he was. The song explores the theme of disillusionment and the desire to move on to a bigger world outside of her small town. In the re-recorded version, Swift's vocals show a more reflective perspective.
